Your organization is highlighted in the report and we regard you, and the others profiled, as pioneers that are pushing the community technology field to address the lack of technology capacity in the nonprofit sector. We view your program as a national model for building a new policy agenda that will include support for other community groups to use technology to promote their missions. We are also developing national and local media campaigns to get the word out about the report and the exciting programs that are highlighted. Zita Allen, a Senior Communications Associate at PolicyLink, will lead this effort. She will be in touch with you to discuss both national and local angles." • 2002-01-06 A set of six maps that show poverty areas in Chicago are now on the GIS web site. These maps show schools on the November State Board of Education warning list, and tutor/mentor programs. Our maps show many more programs available during the 3-5 time frame when most workplace volunteers are not able to participate in comprehensive tutor/mentor programs. Our maps show fewer programs for high school youth, which is a contributing factor to the high dropout rate of teens. I emailed reporters, columist, editorial people, etc. at the Tribune, SunTimes and WGN Radio to encourage them to use these maps in 2002 stories.

Your zeal for this project is infectious and makes me want to tell everyone I meet about how they can get involved in the effort. Because it is under my skin, so to speak, I bring its reference to many of my daily experiences. So, reading the newspaper becomes a quest for using that format to spread the word. The T/MC web site is awesome. Have you approached Jim Coates or anyone else in the Technology section of the Tribune about running an article on it? Often there are letters from heads of organizations talking about their "month". It is a syndicated column and appears all over the world. A letter from you abut the campaign, its wide-reaching applicability, and a listing of the web site(s) might bring all kinds of results. Thanks for all you do for all of us. Good luck in the campaign. Mary " I asked Mary to send this endorsement to the Tribune herself. Moring
