- 1995-05-15 Article in the Chicago Tribune, on Monday, May 15, 1995, titled 'There is a master plan for saving our kids'. This story talked about taking responsibility for children and their education. It also features Dan Bassill and his efforts in developing the Tutor/Mentor Connection and his belief in recruiting companies, churches and individual volunteers to provide kids access to a personal tutor/mentor.
- 1995-10-01 The St. Peter's Episcopal Church invited Dan Bassill to speak on Oct.01, at the 10.00 a.m. Service to talk about the tutor/mentor program he founded. - 2000-11-03 Bill Lederer called. He's a retired fund raiser who contacted me last week after his friend John Blades (our volunteer) had talked to Dan about facility needs. Turns out Bill is "well connected" and is going to be a guest of Jim Dowdle (Ray's uncle) next week. Jim's leading an $8mm fund raising drive for the Archdiocese. Bill will talk to him about taking a role in helping Cabrini Connections get a building donated from the church.
- 2000-12-14 Contacted Sue T. with the Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church Brain Booster program as part of my outreach efforts. She gave me a better understanding of the their program. They spend 1/2 hour in groups working on basic math and reading skills, than 1 hour with their tutors. The adult tutors also serve as mentors to the high school students, so there is a need for more adult volunteers

I sent her How To Get started information and told her to contact me again to after putting some ideas on paper. She also still wanted to talk with Dan. I left him a message.

This is in response to a message I sent encouraging her organization to host a portion of the May and Nov eConference. " Fantastic! Thanks Daniel. Despite working in a Technology College, IT isn't my strong point, but we do have internet conferencing facilities in the school and i've forwarded your email to various staff who should be able to help with the technical aspects. I've also forwarded it to the 'Learning Mentor Co-ordinator' for the whole of Birmingham. I'm sure she'll be keen to get involved and is regularly in touch with mentors in all of the 100 secondary schools (ages 11-16/18) in the city - Birmingham is apparently the biggest local government education authority in Europe, including a wide range of diverse communities, so there should be plenty of scope for learning from each other. I'll let you know when i hear back from other staff and have more idea about the possibilities at our end. I'll go back to your website for more detailed information about the internet conferences and look forward to making plans.

- Undated In early November 2004 just prior to contacting Congressman's Davis's office, I sought and received advice from Father Michael Pfleger, Pastor of St. Sabina Catholic Church. I know and have worked with Father through the sharing program at my Glenview parish (St. Sabina's is one of our sharing parishes), and Father had been a priest assigned to the Glenview parish prior to being reassigned to St. Sabina. Father suggested to me that I should call him for assistance if I found the congressman's unresponsive, and I did so in late January 2004.
