OPPORTUNITIES WITH TUTOR/MENTOR CONNECTION!
By nsbyrer @ 4:43 PM :: 401 Views :: T/MC

Heroes Wanted!

During the January National Mentoring Month, President George Bush and many other celebrities called on all Americans to serve as volunteers in mentoring programs througout the country. While more volunteers are needed, you can also be a HERO by making a contribution that will help a tutor/mentor program better serve volunteers and youth.

Without a flow of flexible operating dollars, from large and small contributors, no tutor/mentor program will be able to recruit and retain the quality team it takes to be as great for as long as programs need to be. See what you can do to make a difference.

we know every reader has probably made contributions to emergency funds, and will have dozens of charities asking for contributions throughout the year, we urge you to plan to set aside a portion of your giving for one or more tutor/mentor programs.

Lift a Spirit, Lend a Hand
The Abraham Lincoln Marovitz Lend A Hand Program at the Chicago Bar Association/Foundation aims to mobilize lawyers, judges, law firms and people working in the legal industry to become involved in one-on-one tutor/mentor programs throughout the Chicago region. This stategy seeks to recruit volunteers to be leaders and donors, as well as tutors and mentors. This is a strategy that the Tutor/Mentor Connection has been part of since 1994. It is a strategy the T/MC hopes to see duplicated in other business and professional groups, and in other cities. Call 312-492-9614 if you'd like to have help launching such a strategy. http://www.lend-a-hand.net

Tutor/Mentor Volunteer Recruitment
Each year, since 1995, the Tutor/Mentor Connection has hosted a Chicagoland Tutor/Mentor Volunteer Recruitment Campaign. The campaign begins in early August and continues through the end of September. The campaign's goal is to recruit 15,000 adults to serve as tutors/mentors in structured programs. That means we need to find 5,000 to 10,000 new volunteers each year! While a volunteer can call a program at any time to offer help, potential volunteers can also use the Program Locator at http://www.tutormentorexchange.net, or can use the volunteer matching services of http://hicagoVolunteer.net to find volunteer opportunities in different parts of the Chicago region.

Annual Cabrini Connections Golf Benefit
Named in memory of Jimmy Biggs, a young man who grew up in Cabrini Green with the help of the volunteer tutors/mentors of Cabrini Connections. Jimmy became part of the tutor/mentor program when he was in 2nd grade. He graduated from high school in 1995 and became part of the Cabrini Connections staff. Jimmy championed the goals of Cabrini Connections and the Tutor/Mentor Connection. Jimmy had a personal goal of recruiting 100 CEOs and "people of influence" to be his personal mentors and his partner in bringing resources to Cabrini Connections and similar mentoring-to-career programs throughout Chicago. Jimmy was working toward this vision when he died suddenly in August 2000. Because of the friends and "people of influence" Jimmy met at the annual golf benefit, the event is named in his honor. This year's Golf Benefit will be held on July 14 at Highland Park Country Club. Visit http://www.cabrinitmcgolf.org for details.

If you'd like to make a contribution, or become a sponsor of one of our events, call , 312-492-9614 or email: info@cabriniconnections.net for sponsorship details.
