By nsbyrer @ 04:48 p. m. :: 5894 Views :: Article Rating :: Events, Planning, Tutoring
The dates and location for the May 2007 Tutor/Mentor Leadership Conference have been announced. The Spring 2007 Tutor/Mentor Leadership and Networking Conference will be held on May 17 and 18, 2007 at the Northwestern University Law School, 375 E. Chicago Ave, Chicago, Il 60610 in partnership with the Children & Family Justice Center at the Northwestern University Law School (CFJC). If you would like to be involved, email the Tutor/Mentor Connection or call 312-492-9614.

At this point we do not have a location for a November 2006 conference in Chicago. The T/MC is continuing to look for a way to do this, while also looking for partners to host on-line forums in November that connect Chicago programs and volunteers with peers in other cities.

If you are already hosting a volunteer based tutor/mentor conference, or on-line forum, and would like to Link it with the T/MC network, please email tutormentor2@earthlink.net.

Sharing Resonpsibility for Reducing Poverty
By nsbyrer @ 04:47 p. m. :: 3044 Views :: Article Rating
"My 15-year old son is being recruited by a gang. He is cutting school and failing his classes. He is on an IEP in school and receiving no additional tutoring or support. I know my son is at high risk of joining a gang. I would like direction to a support organization or mentor."

Note: This is one of many appeals we receive from parents looking for help. It's frustrating not to be able to find enough donors to support our work, or to make comprehensive tutor/mentor programs available in every poverty neighborhood.  Please join in the Discussion Forums to help change this.

Open Letter to the Editorial and Publishing Staff of the Chicago Tribune, written in November of a past year.

Note: The Tutor/Mentor Connection sends many letters to the Editor to Chicago media. Since 1994 several have been printed, but most are not printed. We've made a practice of putting some of these on our web sites so that visitors to the T/MC can read these comments even if the media don't have space to print them.
