Yes We Can! If citizens get involved.
By tutormentor2 @ 9:24 AM :: 189 Views :: Events, Funding and Philanthropy, Tutor/Mentor Connection Editorials, Volunteering
Congratulations to President-Elect Barack Obama.  I was one of many who watched your speach and agreed when you said, the election win is just the beginning of the work that needs to be done and that success depends on the involvement and sacrifice of all citizens.  After the conventions, I wrote a blog article that reflects this same thinking.  Our President can inspire us, but real change only happens when individual citizens act in extraordinary ways. Thanks to everyone who attended Tutor/Mentor Conference, Friday, Nov. 21 at Chicago Field Museum
By tutormentor2 @ 11:58 AM :: 512 Views :: Events, Mentoring, T/MC, Tutoring, Volunteering
On Friday, Nov. 21, 2008  the 30th Tutor/Mentor Leadership and Networking Conference since May 1994 was held at the Chicago Field Museum.  Comments from one participant are posted on the T/MC Ning page.

This conference intends to showcase the work being done by various tutoring and/or mentoring programs, share effective practices via networking and workshops, and draw greater public attention to tutor/mentor programs throughout the region.  One of our goals is to recruit athletes and celebrities who will draw attention to tutor/mentor programs in multiple locations. This blog post illustrates that concept. During the conference one panel included former NFL Quarterbacks Kurt Kittner and Zak Kustok.  If you attended the conference, post your feedback on our Ning page or in the forum on this site.

TutorMatch demonstrates role leaders in business can take
By tutormentor2 @ 3:05 PM :: 461 Views :: Advocacy, Funding and Philanthropy, Mentoring, Technology, Tutoring
I encourage you to read the article posted on the Homework Help Today blog written by Diane Palumbo, based in New Jersey.  This shows how leaders in different industry can use their blogs and advertising to draw resources to volunteer-based tutor/mentor programs.  I hope that more people will duplicate this, especially as we're in a difficult economic time and volunteer-based programs are searching for donations to support the work they do.

Share your story. Tell about your program or what you do to support tutor/mentor programs
By tutormentor2 @ 10:27 AM :: 315 Views :: Funding and Philanthropy, Mentoring, T/MC, Tutoring, Volunteering
Blogs are a great, low-cost, strategy for telling the story of a tutor/mentor program. Cabrini Connections uses blogs by several staff members and volunteers.  If you are using a blog to talk about your tutor/mentor program, or to show why and how your company or foundation supports tutor/mentor programs, we encourage you to introduce your blog by adding a link to this site, and by introducing it in the Discussion Forum or with an Article.

REST of STORY Map shows location of shooting in Chicago; Call for support of tutor/mentor programs

Maps can show where tutor/mentor programs are needed, and why they are needed. Visit the Tutor/Mentor Blog, Map Gallery, and Program Locator to see examples of how T/MC is following stories in Chicago media with follow up map-stories intended to draw volunteers and donors into neighborhoods which the media point to when they do "bad news" stories and give them feature attention in print and media.
