While the Mayor is marching in Woodlawn to protest inner city violence, citizens are saying "tell him to open some centers. The need to spend some resources to open a youth center here, give kids someplace safe to go."

You can answer that call for help.  Help the Tutor/Mentor Connection recruit volunteers, raise money, and support volunteer-based tutoring and/or mentoring programs in the Chicago region as school is starting this fall. Support the August 29 Tutor/Mentor Jam benefit concert, being held in Chicago. 


Tutor/Mentor Jam Concert, August 29 will be held at the Darkroom in Chicago. The web site is http://www.tutormentorjam.org  This is a new event intended to raise money for the Tutor/Mentor Connection, while raising visibility for all of the volunteer-based tutoring and mentoring programs in Chicago who are searching for volunteers at that time of the year.

We are looking for sponsors, donors, publicity partners, and anyone who wants to help kids living in high poverty connect with volunteers in well-organized non-school tutor/mentor programs.

Not in Chicago?  Organize a event that draws attention to volunteer- based tutoring and/or mentoring programs in your own community and add link to the Chicago event on your web site. Promote your own event with an article on this web site.  If events like this take place in many urban areas, the collective attention can have a greater impact than what any of us can do in a single city.
