Arts/Technology Club at Cabrini Connections

Cabrini Connections draws volunteers from many industries to support its Internet strategy, its HSBC Computer Center, and its arts and enrichment programs.

Cabrini Connections is a volunteer-based program. This means many volunteers serve as leaders of group learning activities, program committees, and tutoring sessions, in addition to serving as one-on-one tutors/mentors.

Volunteers have been helping Cabrini Connections with its technology needs for many years. Cabrini Connections was one of the Chicago Pilot Community Based Organizations to receive new Toshiba computers from The Beaumont Foundation of America in 2002 and 2003. Youth use these computers to do homework, to research school projects, and for games and music during free time.

A team of volunteers and students meet each Monday during the school year to teach students to build their own web sites. Another team of volunteers works with students on arts and video projects

Samples of the art and video projects from previous years can be seen at http://www.cabriniconnections.net/art_tech.htm

While volunteers and donated hardware make a huge difference, dollars are also needed for staff, tech support, software and to pay the rent. In December 2005 HSBC North America donated funds to staff the Computer Technology Center at Cabrini Connections during 2006. This has enabled the organization to make it's technology more accessible to youth and volunteers, while also enabling us to organize eLearning programs that enage youth and volunteers in on-line learning and collaboration.

This is the type of support programs like Cabrini Connections need on an on-going, year-to-year basis. If you or your company would like to become a volunteer or a sponsor of Cabrini Connections please email tutormentor2@earthlink.net

Note: If you would like to volunteer with Cabrini Connections, email info1@cabriniconnections.net Use the Program Locator feature to find contact information for other tutor/mentor programs in Chicago where volunteers are also needed.
