Opportunity Nation - strengthening career pathways for young adults
From the web site: "Opportunity and social mobility have defined America. It is a core value of our nation that where you start in life should not determine how high you climb. But that ideal is at risk of disappearing. Young people in other highly industrialized countries now have a better chance of moving up the economic ladder than children in America.1Today, the zip codes where people are born too often determine their destiny.

In a free society, some inequality is unavoidable. Not everyone will rise to the same level; people simply differ in skills and ambition. But inequality without the chance for mobility is economically inefficient — and unjust. The circumstances of a person’s birth should not condemn that person to an inescapable economic fate. When the American Dream is at risk for some, we all suffer.

Opportunity Nation is a national movement of 250 organizations reaching 100 million people united around a shared plan to rebuild the American Dream."

READ Foundation - New York City
From the web site: "Research shows that reading well by the end of third grade is a crucial “pinch point” along the cradle-to-career education pathway. Reading proficiently enables students to shift from “learning to read” by third grade to “reading to learn” after third grade to mastering the more complex subject matter they will encounter in later years. In neighborhoods like the South Bronx, as many as 9 out of 10 third grade students haven’t reached this crucial milestone.

ReadNYC is UWNYC’s response to this crisis. In neighborhoods like Mott Haven and Brownsville, we are working with children, families, schools, and community partners on a shared goal of improving literacy rates and overall academic achievement. ReadNYC’s work is organized under six mutually reinforcing, evidence-based strategies or “levers” that contribute to a child’s well-being and ability to attain reading proficiency by third grade.

Whether they are children, teens or young adults at those junctures, whether it’s a challenge or an opportunity, seemingly minor or distinctly huge, SEI is there. We help students recognize the challenge or opportunity, evaluate options and make choices and decisions that keep them on the best path, every step of the way, through each and every transition in the direction of their dreams."

STRIVE: Cincinatti Northern Kentucky - Cradle to Career Roadmap
From the web site: "Communities throughout the country have seen hundreds of individual programs, organizations and initiatives work to solve overlapping local social problems. Working in silos, these efforts have traditionally fought for the same pot of money and resources with mixed results.

While there have been improvements for individual classrooms or schools, long-term, systemic change has seemed unattainable.

Urban school districts in Cincinnati, Ohio and Northern Kentucky were in similar positions when StrivePartnership started as the first cradle to career community in 2006. By bringing together local leaders to improve education in the region’s urban core, the partnership sought to increase student success throughout three public school districts. More than 300 cross-sector representatives joined in the effort, including school district superintendents, non-profit practitioners, business leaders, city officials and university presidents." Cities across the country are now building their own collective impact strategies, based on the STRIVE model. Visit the web site to learn more.
