  • Planning Calendar for Collective Actions

Facebook is a meeting place for hundreds of millions of people from around the world. Many are deeply involved in efforts to help youth in high poverty neighborhoods. Most of these are not connected to each other or operating with too few resources.  I've created a file on the Tutor/Mentor Institute Facebook Group where I've posted events that I organize in Chicago and where others can add events they also organize in Chicago, or in other cities.  From this we can develop a more complete 12 month calendar of events where at any time of the year someone is taking the lead in drawing people together, building visibility for the entire universe of tutor/mentor programs, and asking people to volunteer time, talent or dollars to support one program, a whole city of programs, or tutor/mentor programs throughout the country or the world.
I hope you'll add your event and give your support to other events.  If two or more organizations are planning an event on the same dates, use this calendar to find ways to connect and help each other, such as by using a Twitter chat to connect people from each event to each other, or to build greater visibility for each event than you could generate by yourself.

This graphic is one of many that I've included in articles posted on the Tutor/Mentor Institute, LLC web site. It illustrates a commitment to help every volunteer-based tutor/mentor program in the Chicago region get the operating resources, talent, volunteers, dollars each needs on a consistent basis in order to constantly improve what they do to help youth move more successfully from through school and into adult lives.

This is a graphic that illustrates the need to grow the number of people who are involved in building visibility and drawing needed resources to all of the tutor/mentor programs in a city. If we can increase the number of people who adopt this strategy, who come from many different industries, professions, faith groups, etc. the work we do over time will dramatically increase visibility for tutor/mentor programs and provide motivations for volunteers, donors and business partners to seek them out. This graphic illustrates a 12-month schedule of events that Tutor/Mentor Connection began to host in 1994 and has continued each year since. The goal of each event is to build visibility, draw people together, and increase flow of resources to all tutor/mentor programs in the Chicago region. If higher profile people support this strategy continuously the amount of resources raised will grow from year to year. Read more -

The key to this strategy is that we join together at key times each year. In order to do that we need to know what events are being held in Chicago or around the world at different times. I've started a list showing events Tutor/Mentor Connection and Tutor/Mentor Institute, LLC host. I hope you'll support them either by attending or by connecting virtually during the period of the event.

Add your event to this calendarHowever, my events only cover a few days of the 365 day annual calendar. If others add the dates of their events to this list you are adding your weight to this collective effort, and you are inviting anyone who visits this list to join your efforts.
