| It Takes Guts To Handle Today's Hot Issues |
|
Consider this: anyone can feed the poor - how about reducing poverty in the first place?
The hard things - things like ending poverty, reducing violence, building affordable housing, providing healthcare, fighting discrimination, winning peace and meeting urgent needs - are what Community Shares of Illinois does every day in communities like yours across the state of Illinois through our 82 member groups. We're tackling and solving issues at the roots, rather than just treating the symptoms.
Our statewide members produce measurable impact in their communities by creatively solving problems at the core. This work is often called social change. This is the type of change that has staying power--its impact affects lives for generations to come.
Like to help us take a bite out of the hot issue that's close to your heart? Then consider a volunteer opportunity with one of our member organizations. If extra time is a problem but not a few extra dollars, consider makng a donation.
Join us in this gutsy work. You'll like the taste of change.

| Share a Meal--The Sweet Taste of Success |
On Tuesday, March 11, 2008 hundreds of supporters across the state headed to 20 local restaurants like Kennedy's at Silver Creek in Champaign-Urbana, Agami Sushi in Chicago, Rhythm Kitchen in Peoria and Maldaner's in Springfield to support the work of Community Shares and its members during the 5th Annual Share a Meal with Community Shares. A complete list of participating restaurants is available at www.share-a-meal.org
On that day, participating restaurants donated a portion of their sales to Community Shares and its 82 member organizations. Our supporters helped us raise $18,000 simply by lifting a fork! If you weren't able to join us on March 11, you can still make a donation!Mark your calendars now for the 6th Annual Share A Meal on Tuesday, March 10, 2009. |
