Bring this Event Strategy Back to Life in Chicago. Bring it to your city.
The events shown below were created in 1994 and 1995 and continued under the support of the Tutor/Mentor Connection thru June 2011. The Tutor/Mentor Institute, LLC has attempted to continue these in Chicago, but no longer has the resources to do this. Thus, the last conference was held in May 2015. The Volunteer Recruitment campaign consists of social media efforts. If you'd like to help re-energize these events, and help draw resources to tutor/mentor programs in every poverty neighborhood of Chicago, or bring this strategy to your own city, use the Contact Us form to introduce yourself.
May Tutor/Mentor Leadership and Networking Conference
Biannual event, in May and November
Since 1994, T/MC has organized a biannual conference in Chicago. This conference brings together tutor/mentor leaders and supporters to promote learning and networking and to build visibility for participating programs. In 2004, T/MC added online discussions to the conference schedule, enabling people from around the world to participate. For details about the next T/MC Leadership and Networking Conference, visit the conference Web site. SPONSORS NEEDED to help fund this event.
Chicagoland Tutor/Mentor Volunteer Recruitment Campaign
Annual event, in early August through late September
Each year, since 1995, T/MC has hosted the Chicagoland Tutor/Mentor Volunteer Recruitment Campaign to recruit adults to serve as volunteers, leaders and donors in Chicago-area tutor/mentor programs. Since 2003 the campaign has primarily used it's web site database to help volunteers, parents and donors locate different tutor/mentor programs in the Chicago region. Events like the Tutor/Mentor Jam can help build greater visibility and draw more volunteers to programs, but this will require more money than T/MC currently is raising. For more information on how you can help support an annual citywide volunteer recruitment campaign, visit this page.
November Conference and Tutor/Mentor Week
Biannual event, in May and November. Between 1994 and 2000 the week of the November conference was also TUTOR/MENTOR WEEK in Chicago. The Chicago Bar Foundation/Association Lawyers Lend A Hand Program hosted a major fund raiser, the Tutor/Mentor Connection hosted a conference, and the goal was that in various neighborhoods local programs would host events that drew volunteers and donors to their neighborhood while contributing to building the visibility of tutor/mentor programs throughout the city, which would also lead to greater year-end donor support of all of these programs. Due to changes in strategy at the Lend A Hand Program and lack of funding for T/MC activities, a major November Tutor/Mentor Week in Chicago is still on the drawing-board. If your company or university would like to partner with T/MC to rebuild this event, please contact us.
These events are part of an annual calendar of events intended to build public awareness and increase the number of volunteers and donors who become part of tutor/mentor programs in all high poverty areas of the Chicago region.
