Tutor/Mentor Leadership and Networking Conference
Biannual event, in May and November
Since 1994, T/MC has organized a biannual conference in Chicago. This conference brings together tutor/mentor leaders and supporters to promote learning and networking and to build visibility for participating programs. In 2004, T/MC added online discussions to the conference schedule, enabling people from around the world to participate. Chicagoland Tutor/Mentor Volunteer Recruitment Campaign
Annual event, in early August through late September
Each year, since 1995, T/MC has hosted the Chicagoland Tutor/Mentor Volunteer Recruitment Campaign to recruit adults to serve as volunteers, leaders and donors in Chicago-area tutor/mentor programs. The campaign’s goal is to recruit 15,000 adults to serve as tutors/mentors in structured programs. This means we need to find 5,000 to 10,000 new volunteers each year! For more information on how you can participate in the campaign, visit the recruitment campaign Web site.
Cabrini Connections Golf Benefit
Annual event, in July
The Cabrini Connections Golf Benefit is the major fundraiser of the year for T/MC and Cabrini Connections. The event is named in memory of Jimmy Biggs, a young man who grew up in Cabrini Green and with the support of volunteer tutors/mentors, graduated from high school in 1995 and became part of the Cabrini Connections staff. Jimmy had a personal goal of recruiting 100 CEOs and "people of influence" as his personal mentors and partners in bringing resources to Cabrini Connections and similar mentoring-to-career programs throughout Chicago. Jimmy was working toward this vision when he died suddenly in August 2000. Because of his work at the annual golf benefit, the event is named in his honor. If you'd like to make a contribution, or become a sponsor of this year's golf benefit, visit the Golf Benefit Web site or call 312-492-9614.

Tutor/Mentor Support Events in the Legal Community—Lift a Spirit, Lend a Hand
The SunTimes Judge Marovitz Lawyers Lending A Hand to Youth Program, supported by the Chicago Bar Association and Chicago Bar Foundation, aims to mobilize lawyers, judges, law firms and other members of the legal industry to participate in one-on-one tutor/mentor programs throughout the Chicago area. T/MC has been part of this strategy since 1994 and hopes to see similar programs duplicated in other business and professional groups, and in other cities. Each year the LAH hosts several events to raise visibility and draw attention to tutor/mentor programs. These include:
• Barrister’s Ball (March)
• My Hero Awards Lunch (July)
• Pro-Bono and Volunteer Recruitment Event (October)
