Hi!  I have just been hired to create a mentor program for an agency in the Philly suburbs.  We will be working with youth ages 16-21 as they "age out" of the foster care system.  My supervisor and I are researching stipends/trying to budget for them.  There is not a whole lot of information out there.  If anyone would be willing to share their program's policy on volunteer stipends and the pros and cons they have experienced, I would be EXTREMELY grateful!  Thank you for your help!!!

Hi Jill,

We don't use stipends for youth or volunteers at Cabrini Connections, but we try to reward them for participation, so they attend consistently.  We do this through the types of events we offer, social activities, and the coaching of our staff and lead volunteers.  We're working with grade 7 to 12.

This discussion forum is not getting as much interaction as we would like to see, so we've also created a forum at http://tutormentorconnection.ning.com where you might be able to get feed back.

Good luck to you.
