During the Tutor/Mentor Conference one workshop was a panel discussion intended to showcase ways some tutor/mentor programs engage the talent of business volunteers.

Panel members were

The speakers shared ideas of how they involve volunteers beyond tutoring mentoring, and pointed to place on their web sites which itemize lists of volunteer opportunities.

Many of the panelist are using services like http://www.volunteermatch.org and  http://www.idealist.org to submit volunteer job descriptions and recruit volunteers.  Here's a link on the T/MC site with many search engines you can  use for this purpose.

For instance:

East Village Youth Program volunteer opportunity page: http://www.evyp.org/othervolunteer.html

Cabrini Connections volunteer opportunity page: http://www.cabriniconnections.net/volunteers/descriptions.asp

Some ideas submited by workshop participants included

  • Enlist local jeweler to create awards to recognize volunteers
  • Join the Chamber of Commerce
  • Visit the Rotary Club
  • Web site developers
  • Dance Choreographer for Event
  • Neighborhood Volunteer Recruitment

If you have suggestions to add, or want to post the link to a page on your web site that shows volunteer opportunities, please add a comment.
