In March 2011 a Collective Impact Conference was held at Stanford University and co-hosted by FSG. The conference was streamed live at this link. FSG wrote an article for the Stanford Social Innovation Review, which can be seen at t his link. Collaborations and efforts to get large numbers of groups to work together are the result of work done by intermediary organizations. Such organizations require on-going support from philanthropy, government and/or business to be able to build networks focused on common goals. In another SSIR article the concept of Civic Reach was discussed, basically saying "Nonprofits must have influential board members who connect them to the communities they serve." Finally in a series of articles on the Tactical Philanthropy blog Sean Stannard-Stockton, CEO of Tactical Philanthropy Advisors describes how "Philanthropic Investors" invest in the organization, and its leaders, and provide the flexible, long-term support that organizations need to grow from good to great. I posted my own commentary on this series on the Tutor/Mentor Connection forum. What can you add to this list? Do you know of others writing about collective action/impact? Do you know of any people describing a volunteer-based tutor/mentor program like Cabrini Connections as a place of collective action toward a common goal? If you can add links related to this please submit your ideas in the comments section. |
