In the conference evaluation, programs were asked to list ways they will help build public awreness for tutoring/mentoring in Chicago. Here are some of the responses:
- More marketing & working w/other local organizations
- I will help with beginning to make changes myself in my programs and students. I also would pass info & knowledge to my collegues
- By networking more with other organizations & creating ways to have the organization more visible
- Visit web site. Email conference participants
- Refer other groups to web site
- Potentially hold a tutor/mentor organization meeting in a smaller community
- Collect data & share; Use students as advocates
- Talk to schools and parents
- Pass on the word to students/peers in universities
- Public medical centers, small primary care practices, individual doctors - engage mentors/tutors attached to medical practice
- Continue partnership with the U of Chicago and the Hyde Park Community
- Invite local organizations in our area to gather together for collaboration
- Get involved from Web site; look into tutoring/mentoring program for my agency
- I am planning on approaching other people I'm in touch with: local athletic leagues, friends, using current volunteers to reach their companies, etc.
- Inform collegues about web site
- Refer parents to the Program Locator
- Link the Tutor/Mentor web site to ours
- As AmeriCorps VISTA member, I will be working in community development efforts to directly impact a elementary school through tutoring/mentoring programming
- stay connected with attendees that I met; encourage friends & family to find something for them
- Continue recruitment for our program; awareness of other organizations
