My name is Joseph Reeves, I work at the Community Resource Network (CRN), as a volunteer and the Program Outreach Coordinator for the D.O.O.R.S. initiative. I have sent you this information concerning the D.O.O.R.S. initiative because I want to introduce myself and the D.O.O.Rs program in an effort to recruit potential volunteers and or elicit support from your ranks and help in the form of volunteer recruitment.

I am a disabled veteran who works as a volunteer. Therefore, I am the a living example of the D.O.O.R.S achievements. There are many benefits that potential volunteers can gain from participation in this program. One of the many benefits is that the volunteer opportunities will provide the participants with marketable skills that can lead to future full-time, permanent employment.  I believe that my organization, the Community Resource Network, can and will benefit from collaboration with your agency through implementation of the D.O.O.R.S initiative.

Therefore, please review, print and forward this e-mail to any and all of your contact organizations and clients that you feel could or would benefit from participation.  Please spread the word!  I am looking toward helping your organization's participation in this program as a recruitment site. Perhaps, some of your organization's clients can become potential volunteers under the D.O.O.R.S initiative.  Please visit: http://www.communityresourcenetwork.org  to learn more about CRN and http://www.chicagovolunteers.net to register your organization into our database and create a login. Both websites provide information about the Community Resource Network and how we can benefit your organization.

 The D.O.O.R.S. Initiative

The Disability Outreach Offering Resources through Service (D.O.O.R.S) initiative is an exciting new program that may be of interests to you and many of your clients. The goal of the program is to recruit persons with disabilities to volunteer in organizations where they can be empowered to make change and gain marketable skills which will hopefully lead to improved employment and economic status. For more information on the D.O.O.R.S. program, visit: http://www.pointsoflight.org/programs/doors/default.cfm.

CRN is the local grant recipient provided by the Points of Light Foundation (P.O.L.F.) and the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS).  We are pleased to be the local resource for non profit organizations seeking volunteer and to assist people with disabilities, especially veterans, whom we can refer and place at/or with volunteer opportunities throughout the Chicago area. For example, in an nonprofit organization similar to your organization.

These volunteer positions often involve different financial and economic literacy activities as well as other types of positions (as they become available) that match the volunteers' interests and skill sets. CRN's goal is to match disabled persons, especially veterans, with suitable volunteer opportunities and assist in placing these individuals into organizations, to serve. A suitable volunteer activity is a volunteer opportunity which matches the D.O.O.R.S participants skill sets and desired vocational aptitude.

I have attached our D.O.O.R.S. flyer for veterans, a formal request letter and a letter, on CRN letterhead, that describes the D.O.O.R.S program in depth.  Please take time to review the attached material. Your help in this matter is greatly appreciated.

Thank you for you time and consideration
