Hi everyone,

My name is Meghan Bacino. I recently moved to Chicago and am interested in creating an innovative, fresh writing group for some of the Cabrini Connections participants! I taught some writing courses at Michigan State before moving here to write my dissertation, which focuses on how we can help students study writing as social action and become more active writers. I miss teaching, and I reached out to CC to get involved and try and help kids do amazing things with the written word. I'm excited to meet other volunteers and see if we can collaborate on some ideas for this sort of thing. Some genres I think would be great are personal narratives, journal writing, hip-hop song lyrics; depending on what direction the kids want to go, we could work to publicize their work or find performace venues. Dan got me all pumped up about networking :), so I'm going to reach out to people I know. I look forward to meeting all of you. Let me know if you're interested!

Meghan

Hi Meghan -

Welcome!  I am the eLearning and Tech Coordinator here at Cabrini Connections and Tutor/Mentor Connection.  One way we have been encouraging kids to write is through our blog: http://cabriniblog.blogspot.com/

As you can see, we had kids blog a few times, but most of the entries are from myself and other volunteers.  I would be interested to hear if you have any strategies for encouraging these kids to use this blog more consistently.  What would be their motivations for doing so?

I look forward to working with you!

Hi Meghan. Thanks for setting up a blog for the Cabrini Connections Writing Club

I read what the kids wrote on March 7th and this is powerful writing.
