Hello!

My name is Nithya and I'm a Board Fellow working with Tutor / Mentor Connection for the next six months.  The program is run through Net Impact, which I'm a member of through my business school.  I've been matched with TMC so that I can participate as a non-voting board member to gain exposure to governance issues in a nonprofit.  Part of my fellowship includes completing a strategic project for the TMC.

My project is to develop a case competition at business schools.  The competition would be around developing marketing plans that draw interest to tutor / mentor programs in their community.  The competition would judge both the plan and the short-term impact (1 yr), in terms of donations (monetary and in-kind) as well as generation of volunteers, public press, etc.

This competition will have an immediate impact on tutor/mentor programs around the nation, and will provide an opportunity for business school students to apply their learnings.  Our long-term goal is to create interest and awareness for these future business leaders, so that they will incorporate civic leadership into the companies they spearhead.

We hope to capitalize on the spirit of competition amongst the schools. Also, we hope to provide an opportunity for a community of like-minded individuals to network with each other and the competition's judges, leaders who have made an impact in business and nonprofit communities as well.

Over the next few months, I'll post updates for my project here.  I'm starting with an assessment of existing case competitions, with a focus on socially-oriented ones.  The results of this assessment will help me design the key components of the TMC case program.  If you have any thoughts regarding this idea, or would like to contribute to the development, I value your input and would love to hear from you.

Cheers!

We are pleased that Nithya has joined the Tutor/Mentor Connection to work on our Business School Connection project.  If you'd like to learn more, or get involved, the discussion continues below.

Our aim is to recruit teams from the top business schools in the world, who will demonstrate why they claim to be the best by what their teams do to raise visibility, recruit volunteers and raise dollars, on an on-going, year-to-year basis,  to support tutor/mentor programs in their own communities.

If  you're one of these talented graduate students, please join the Business School Connection discussion.
