Jump Start is a one-to-one tutoring and mentoring program operating in the Illinois Youth Centers (IYC) in the new Department of Juvenile Justice.  It is a joint venture between Literacy Volunteers of Illinois and School District #428 of the Illinois Department of Juvenile Justice (IDJJ). The program is also supported by the Illinois Retired Teachers Association (IRTA), and was originally funded by a three year grant from the Retirement Research Foundation.
