Do you think reading and writing are important to our quality of life?

Do you enjoy the company of children?

Are you interested in a challenging and rewarding activity?

Do you have one free hour a week?

If your answer is "yes," please consider being a tutor to a young child who needs help developing reading and language skills. Through the OASIS Intergenerational Tutoring Program, volunteers, schools and OASIS work together to help young children build reading skills and positive attitudes toward learning.

Tutors receive 12 hours of initial training, and continuing support through regular tutor meetings where they can share experiences, solve problems, and build friendships.

Volunteers have expressed great satisfaction in being able to make a positive difference. One OASIS tutor writes about her experience:

"I believe this program is rewarding for both me and my student. I can really see the improvement in her reading, maturity, and social skills!"

Since 1989, OASIS tutors have helped more than 210,000 children learn to read. The program is available in more than 100 school districts.
