St. Agatha Family Empowerment (S.A.F.E.) is a CAP affiliate. The organization was founded in 1991 by neighborhood residents to give families in the North Lawndale area a positive alternative to drugs, gangs, and violence. Operating five days a week, S.A.F.E. focuses on the hours of 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., which according to a Justice Department study, is the most dangerous time for the young people of the inner city.
